This preserves 1 g of active material. Use a compatible carrier and a scale suitable for your smallest addition. Mass percentages do not convert directly to volume percentages.
Worked example
To make 20 g of a 10% dilution from a 50% stock, weigh 4 g of stock and add 16 g of compatible diluent. The result contains 2 g of active material.
Common questions
Does this dilution calculator use weight or volume?
All percentages and quantities are by mass. Grams, milligrams and weight ounces are supported; ounces here are not fluid ounces. Do not mix a volume-based percentage with these mass-based calculations.
Can dilution make a stock stronger?
No. Adding diluent can only reduce or preserve the concentration. Your target strength must be no higher than your source stock strength.
What diluent should I use?
Use a diluent appropriate for your material and intended application, following supplier solubility and handling guidance. Arithmetic alone cannot predict whether a mixture will dissolve or stay clear.
